GBGMC PEPFAR COP Engagement

Background

In line with its mission to demand social justice for all black gay men and other men who have sex with
men, GBGMC is currently working to expand its global footprint, to ensure that the needs of our
communities are addressed, independently of where we live. One such need is the right to access
culturally appropriate health care services, and especially those related to HIV/AIDS and STIs, as
prevalence of HIV among black MSM continues to be disproportionately high in many parts of the
world. With this in mind, GBGMC recruited a consultant (PEPFAR COP Engagement Strategist) in the
Caribbean, to work with local MSM focused CSOs and support capacity building and coordination towards
a unified approach to PEPFAR engagement during the Country/Regional Operational Planning (C/ROP)
exercise. This engagement was necessary to ensure that C/ROPs were responsive to needs of the MSM
community
C/ROP is the process that facilitates planning for activities/interventions that will be supported by PEPFAR,
in the following fiscal year (FY). For example, C/ROP 22 is the planning exercise for FY23 (October 2022
to September 2023). The process runs annually from the beginning of the fiscal year (October) and ends
anywhere between May to June, when plans receive approval from the Office of the Global AIDS
Coordinator.

Goal:

Ensure that the HIV related needs of MSM, especially black men, are addressed during the C/ROP
22 process in the Caribbean Region
