GLOBAL BLACK GAY MEN CONNECT (GBGMC); NAMES KALEN ALLEN AS GRAND MARSHAL FOR FIRST EVER GLOBAL BLACK PRIDE (RIOT)

09/29/2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 16th, New York: Founded in 2018, Global Black Gay Men Connect (GBGMC) is an activist-led nonprofit organization  registered in New York.  As a collective, GBGMC fosters an activist-led movement with the goal of building local power to intervene in discrimination and violence inflicted on Black Gay communities and men wherever they live. We strive to facilitate intentional involvement by engaging Black gay men across the world and developing their capacity to rapidly intervene on human rights issues surrounding mental and physical health, police brutality, immigration, and general well-being.

We are excited to announce Kalen as one of our grand marshals for the first-ever Global Black Gay Pride, which will be a virtual 12hr global experience taking place on Friday, July 10th, 2020.  This inaugural event will not be the usual pride celebration. This is a riot! As a movement, we believe that our core issues are at a make-or-break moment, and together we need solutions bold enough to meet the greatest challenges of our lifetime, and big enough to bring world leaders and all of us to get it done.

This year’s Grand Marshal is an LA-based entertainer, Kalen. who continues to be an inspiration to many young black gay men all across the globe. Kalen holds a regular guest spot on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and has a weekly digital news series, OMKalen, where he provides commentary on trending pop culture stories. He’s covered the red carpets at New York Fashion Week, the Met Gala, and a royal wedding. To date, Allen’s videos have gained nearly 260 million views across all of the Ellen platforms. He said:

“I am so honored to be this year’s Grand Marshal at the first-ever Global Black Gay Pride. I look forward to coming together with my Black queer community all around the world on such a special day” Kalen Allen

Supporting GBGMC

To participate in movement building is to be hopeful. We want to bring a message of hope to more places — on the ground, online, over the air. Where there are Black gay men on this planet, this movement will go. We’ll bring a message of hope. We’ll take with us a vision that sets out to solve our greatest problems with new ideas, one’s bold enough to meet our challenges and big enough to bring people together to get them done. To do all this, it’s critical we meet the goals we set for ourselves. We need to hope, yes, but also do the work of bringing those hopes to life. With your support, we know we can do this.
